ADVANCE Professorships
In December 2001, four senior women faculty members, one each
from the Colleges of Engineering, Computing, Sciences, and Ivan
Allen, were selected to hold NSF ADVANCE Professorships. Each
faculty member will receive annual funds for five years to support
her research and leadership activities to advance women in her
respective college, and Institute-wide.

The Professorships are held by Jane
Ammons, Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering
in the College of Engineering; Mei-Yin
Chou, Professor of Physics in the College of Sciences;
Mary Frank Fox, Professor
of Sociology in Ivan Allen College; and Mary
Jean Harrold, Associate Professor of Computing in
the College of Computing.

In addition to their individual projects, the professors are
undertaking collective activities, including: (1) biweekly meetings
to coordinate their projects and exchange ideas; (2) participation
in campus events related to ADVANCE; and (3) planning and participation
in the annual Georgia Tech ADVANCE Mini-Conferences.
