Extending the Tenure Clock:
Georgia Tech recognizes that compelling circumstances might significantly impair an individual's ability to pursue his/her teaching and scholarly activities.
Circumstances could include:
- Childbirth
- Adoption of a child less than six years old
- Severe personal illness
- Significant obligations to a member of the family or household
Interested faculty must present a request in writing to the appropriate dean of school chair. Requests require administrative approval.
Extensions are for one year per event (maximum two). Currently used equally by men and women.
Details in the Faculty Handbook
Active Service- Modified Duties:
- Support to fund academic faculty at all stages of their careers to modify their required duties to allow for dealing with life altering personal circumstances (childbirth/adoption, illness of self or family member).
Nursing Moms Program
- Private spaces on campus for nursing moms to express milk.
- Each space contains a professional grade pump, mini-refrigerator, chair, table, breastfeeding/parenting literature
