2006 Conference

The fifth Annual Georgia Tech NSF ADVANCE Conference focused on impacts and institutionalization of ADVANCE. The conference was held in Technology Square at the Global Learning and Conference Center (GLCC) on Friday, March 10.The work of the ADVANCE professors was highlighted along with the ADEPT tool developed for the enhancement of the promotion and tenure process.

Provost Jean-Lou Chameau opened the conference with an update on the progress of GT ADVANCE initiatives. Dr. Mary Frank Fox presented ADVANCE research findings from her study of faculty at Georgia Tech and at eight other universities. A career coaching workshop session was developed by Dr. Jane Ammons to provide a one-on-one mentoring opportunity for junior faculty, who were partnered in timed mini-sessions with up to four separate senior faculty “coaches.” Dean Sue Rosser (ADVANCE co-PI), facilitated a meeting of Georgia Tech deans, associate deans and school chairs met to discuss issues of faculty recruitment. A computer was available for participants to use the ADEPT instrument, which has become a requirement for all members of promotion and tenure committees. A well-attended reception at the end of the day provided an opportunity for faculty to interact with each other and with Georgia Tech administrators.
